About Us

Michael & Rendel Ingram

Michael was born in London in 1955. His first paid employment was as a football coach, from here he joined the civil Service, working in HM Treasury. From his office window he could see Big Ben. He thought this amusing as he would often bump into people who had come from the other side of the world to see it. On leaving government, he did many other jobs, including, cleaning, proof reading, tutoring, and single parenthood, amongst other things. Michael was involved in R. Ingram Coins at the beginning, and became a full-time partner in 2000.

He loves handling and looking at the coins, and always looks forward to compiling the new catalogue, where he will spend up to a fortnight doing little else other than grading and pricing the new coins. He is pleased to have seen some of the great coins of the British series, including many Gothic Crowns, some beautiful Anne 5 Guineas, and a number of very rare pieces from Cromwell.

His favourite coins are Half Crowns and Shillings. Sterling Silver is a beautiful metal, and the designs of both denominations are very impressive. If he had to pick a favourite type it would be the Young Head Victorian Shilling. Victoria was a beautiful woman, and he can happily gaze at her portrait on a high grade coin, for longer than is healthy.

Michael loves football and has been a player, coach, manager, and referee. He now follows one of the loves of his life, Queens Park Rangers, as well as his local football club Eastleigh. Michael is passionate about everything he does, his motto being 'If I am not passionate about it why am I doing it?' In this vein he claims the title of Southampton's number one heavy metal music fan. He loves Lamb of God, Slipknot, Metallica and Dream Theatre amongst many others. He is also a fan of the theatre, but his favourite activity in the whole world is eating out!

He enjoys walking and physical activity, which is good and ensures he doesn't pile on the pounds. He is a graduate of philosophy and Theology, and this has been a passion of his life ever since. He has a long term partner, who is truly the love of his life, three grown-up children, and eleven grandchildren. He is a very passionate Christian and attends his local Baptist church.

Rendel was born in 1982 and is the youngest of Michael's three children. He has always liked coins, saving his pocket money from day one. His real love of coins began in 1990 when he was given one hundred 5p's as a Christmas present, still his favourite present to this day. He obtained a bag of old pennies shortly after, and his interest in coins grew from there. In the early days Rendel aimed to obtain one coin from each country, but soon his main interest focused on British coins.

Rendel sold his first coins in 1995 and founded R. Ingram Coins in 1997. At this point he decided he didn't want to do anything other than buying and selling coins, and, over 20 years later he still has no plans to do anything else! Rendel is also a football fan supporting Eastleigh FC and also loves the cinema, eating out and reading. He is married with 2 young children, Olivia & Charlie.
